Towards Zero Deaths (TZD)

TZD is a grant funded program, in which the Polk County Sheriff's Office participates, in cooperation with the Crookston Police Department and the East Grand Forks Police Department. The TZD program sets aside funds to be used for deputies working overtime on special traffic details, concentrating on specific traffic problems such as:

  • The "move over law" (move over for emergency vehicles with lights activated)
  • Child safety seat usage
  • Distracted driving
  • Impaired driving
  • Seat belt usage
  • Speeding

This grant is funded by the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety.

TZD Coalition

Towards Zero Death is a partnership between the Minnesota Departments of Public Safety, Transportation, and Health and the University of Minnesota. It's mission is to create a culture for which traffic fatalities and serious injuries are no longer acceptable through the integrated application of education, engineering, enforcement, and emergency medical and trauma services. TZD's coalition comes together to create media releases, news conferences and high visibility mobilizations, all which are geared towards increasing the safety within our communities.

More information about the TZD program can be obtained by going to Toward Zero Deaths.
