The Engineering Department is responsible for all work related to construction of Polk County highways, bridges, and the township bridge program. This includes:
- Construction inspection
- Design
- Permitting
- Project administration
- Right-of-way
- Surveys
Construction Costs
Polk County spends approximately $3.5 million a year in construction on its County State Aid Highway system and currently $0 on its local County Road system. Polk County administers approximately $500,000 to $1.5 million in township bridge replacements yearly.

Five-Year Construction Plan
The Five-Year Construction Plan is updated once a year. This update involves adding a year to the program as well as updating or revising the other years within the program. View the 2019 Five-Year Plan (PDF).

Permit applications for Polk County are completed online through the Public Works Department. The following link will be used for permits regarding Park, Utility, Transportation and Right-of-Way / Access.
