Historic Bridge Needs New Home

Press Release

August 2022

Historic Bridge Needs New Home

The Polk County Highway Department, in cooperation with the Traill County Highway Department, is selling a steel truss bridge for $1.

The historic bridge currently is closed to traffic due to concrete deck failure.

Measuring at 26 feet wide, the bridge must be removed to make way for a new bridge that will allow for traffic typical of CSAH 1/ND CR 17 in this area.

The county hopes the old bridge can be preserved for use in a new setting.

Built in 1939, Bridge 5767’s two 177-foot Parker High trusses are eligible for the National Register in North Dakota.

The bridge is in fair condition.  The trusses display some pack rust, bent or missing railing members, and a failed paint system.  The bridge’s most critical condition issues relate to the concrete deck and abutment/pier movements.

The new owner would pay the costs of relocation and re-erection of the bridge on a new site, including construction of new substructures and a bridge deck.

Polk County is accepting Letters of Interest until April 30, 2023.
